Morning sickness relief 101

Hey guys it’s been a little while but I have some exciting news These 4 walls are going to House a little extra love between them because WE ARE EXPECTING!!!

Daddy big sister, and newly promoted big brother are over the moon and mommy…well mommy’s head has been stuck in the toilet for weeks now 😩😩

This isn’t my first rodeo but man did I forget all the things..lol I didn’t know what to do with myself as far as how to keep al my insides from spilling out daily and not just in the mornings 🙄 (who ever deemed it morning sickness ya moms a hoe) no I’m only kidding but seriously it lasts way longer than just the mornings every mom can attest to that

Since I so inconveniently forgot what helped with morning sickness I thought I’d give a refresher course here:

I have enlisted the help of my friends my tribe and google to help me thru this difficult time and they really came through… here are some things that helped me:

GINGER

so many suggested ginger to me weather it ginger ale or ginger candy or pickled ginger basically ginger was to help so I tried it

Although sprite helped me more tan ginger ale I did get some candied ginger that helped so much

It’s still full as you can see because tho it helped TO ME it taste gross like spicy soap 🤷🏾‍♀️

PEPPERMINT

My friend Alise suggested peppermint and this is what got me thru car rides although it helped the relieve is short lived

FRESH LEMON

Mann these are a life savor just the smell of one cuts thru that nausea feeling fast and a suck of the lemon while eating helped me to ACTUALLY be able to eat (thank you grandma for this old school remedy) it wasn’t until she told me to try the lemon that I was able to eat my first meal (jerk catfish cabbage rice and beans and Caribbean string beans) I will never forget how good this meal was because it was the first thing I’d been able to eat in WEEKS

ICEE/ICE

YES I went thru a brief stage of ice chewing in the morning (I couldn’t stomach food and I knew I had to stay hydrated with all the puking I’d been doing. Also the icees seem to hold off the puking didn’t stop it but held it off for a little

YOGURT

In my case it was gogurt lol yes I was eating up all the kids snacks and they were none too pleased 😂😂 let’s just call it their first lesson in sharing with the new baby lol

It was Liz that told me to eat yogurt before bed and when I got up in the morning to make sure my sugar didn’t drop too low ( which also causes morning sickness) Thank you Liz lol the first day I tried it it actually worked and I ended up inhaling 6 of them 🙈 YES SIX (the judgement of Aiesha is prohibited on this blog 🙈😂) I’m still eating my yogurt we just buy in bulk now 🤷🏾‍♀️

All these things are relief for a while but here’s the thing that really helps….

stepping into your second trimester…yup the best thing you can do is ride that wave into the 13th or 14th week when you start to feel some real relief..

THAT is MORNING SICKNESS RELIEF 101.. I hope this helps someone as it helped me and I’d love to hear some things that helped you during your difficult time. Drop some comments and help us pregnant mamas out. I’m s sure we all me included would appreciate it… LOVE ❤️

Were you a Toys R Us kid?

What a sad day it will be when they close the final door on toys r us! Growing up I lived for toys r us! It’s the best place in the world for a kid

Every Christmas I remember the big toy book would come to our house and me and my sisters took circling our wants seriously. We would go thru that book for hrs just imagining all the fun we would have with every toy in there and dream that Santa was going to bring it all !

It was a quite magical place!… kinda like a bar for an alchy or an all you can eat buffet for a pleasantly plump person! EVERY KIDS DREAM Get it girland parents nightmare of course when it comes to the holiday season.

I think they pretty much have all the hottest toys and wants of the kids. .They stayed in the now and in the know. Your kid wanted a certain toy.. Toys r us was sure to carry it. In fact since becoming a mom of my own it’s where we have spent every holiday season knocking out the Christmas list. I don’t know what I’m going to do now 😩

I’m a Nostalgic mom so of course when I heard the news that toys R us is closing we had to go for our last visit we had to go one last time and of course I had to get the infamous picture of us walking in front because it may be the very last time that we see those letters.

I also thought hey going out of business sale bout to be lit… We did something we normally don’t do we let the kids run around and check out everything til their little hearts were content

And even let them pic out a toy each

but just one (as I stated before the sales aren’t too good yet) most things are still only 10% off and you can still get them cheaper at other stores.

I will admit I was kinda bummed to see things were still too highly priced even told the cashier “This is no sale let alone a going out of business one!”

It was then that we had a conversation that would change my out look on toys r us closing.

I was looking at it from a kid at heart who loved toys r us and from a mom who didn’t want to spend an arm and leg on a toy that was “on sale”

But this cashier opened my eyes to the thousands of people who will be left without jobs!! The people who lost their pensions and the elderly who worked there who were so close to retiring but now they have to figure something else out.

I was told they lose their vacation and anything else they didn’t use before the time is up they won’t even pay them out for it. 😔😔This part of the closing is more heartbreaking than the close itself how many people are literally hung out to dry and weren’t warned or told a thing.

Seeing first hand an empty toys r us with only 2 cashiers and a now hiring sign in the window because the workers quit because of how they got treated during the whole ordeal. This is the part that stuck with me during our visit .

Here I was complaining about the prices being to high and telling the cashier they won’t sell anything at these prices unless it’s to another company to resale. She nodded her head in the solidarity of that truth and told me she was ok with that because as longs as the shelves stayed full they had a job! It was then I started to look at it differently and I too hoped they would be able to work for months to come. Even if that meant I didn’t get my toys for a steal it meant someone else got one more day on the clock to feed their family Perspective is everything. We will miss toys r us and I will always be thankful for the good times we had

Do You Believe in Superstitions? 👻

Superstitions have been around for a long long time, with me growing up they played a role in shaping my early childhood years to a certain extent. As I grew older I learned to take them with a grain of salt, but with a young mind the thoughts of what could happen seem to have you believe there could really be something lurking around the corner. For instance, I remember being afraid to walk past a certain old woman’s house on the neighborhood for quite a while as a kid. Her name was Ms. Doll, and the rumor was that she did something terrible to her husband and she had a reputation of being mean and nasty. I happened to walk by her house on a dare one time as she sat on the porch during a bright summer day, but no light shone on her part of the sidewalk from all of the dead bushes and trees that lined her front yard , and the look that o got from her and the face that I saw made sure I never walked past that house again. At least until later after she had passed, and I was much older😂😂.

Friday the 13th, broken mirrors, open umbrellas under a roof, black cats, beginner’s luck, walking under a ladder, lucky rabbits foot …… etc. Many superstitions stem from the same part of our brain that causes us to believe in monsters and ghosts. When our minds can’t explain something, we tend to make stuff up and that thought is based off how you perceive it. Our minds really do project things into our conscious thinking and are able to affect us in many ways. There’s actually particles in our brains called mirror neurons, and basically they broadcast and send out and receive signals based on the frequencies, i.e.(emotions) that we project.

I remember being young and one of the first superstitions that I learned about in particular was the one about Resurrection Mary. She was a young lady that was struck and killed on the road late at night near Resurrection cemetery in Justice, Il and this story became known nationally because supposedly after Mary’s death she could be seen on the road late at night hitchhiking. There are even stories of her getting picked up by drivers, only for her to disappear after a certain distance….. look it up it’s not a joke. Back to the superstitious part of the story, as kids we would dare each other to enter a dark bathroom with a mirror and repeat the words Resurrection Mary 3 times and then turn on lights to see if she appears!😱

Mary Bregovy aka Resurrection Mary

Superstitions are not always based off of bad or scary things necessarily though, they also come in the form of knocking on wood when one says or react to things in the same type of way, it’s like a verbal shield against bad luck vibes that could be headed your way after tempting fate. Another one is making a wish on a wishbone from a turkey. I used to look for that bone every Thanksgiving 😂found it a couple times as well. I guess crossing your fingers for good luck would also fall into that category. On the flip side though, there are other perilous superstitions that abound, such as the belief that bad things happen in 3’s, or that 666 is the mark of the beast and surely a dangerous sign if seen. But again, although some of these occurrences might seem true and authentic , I still will hold true to my belief that we really are the sculptors of our own experiences. Our mind is like the machine drawing the picture, and our feet are just following the plan that we have set forth.

Trinity’s birth story

“Is this labor??? There’s no way..” Ouch!!! “

ok these Braxton Hicks are getting intense maybe I shouldn’t’ve done those jumping jacks… OUCH!!!”

Ok Esha what the hell is going on time to call mommy” (Yes I was 26 and in labor with my first child and still felt I needed to call mommy so I did)

As to not disturb Erik because I wasn’t sure if it was labor or not, I let him sleep and labored all night on the phone with my mom 😩😩😩. I had been to 2 births before and knew that those contractions could still be followed by hrs and hrs of waiting to meet your baby so I didn’t want to go in right away. I touched it out til 10 am the next day when I had my drs appointment.

There is when he checked my cervix to see that I was already 6 1/2cm dilated when I got to him. He rushed me down to labor and delivery because things were happening fast! Panic settled in… I hadn’t even packed a bag or told anyone anything I thought it was a regular drs visit .

Scared out of my mind because all the nurses and people around me are in an uproar and a rush to get me to labor and delivery, I called my mom to tell her it’s time and they’ve given me my room all in between NOT BREATHING during my very close together contractions. I don’t care how many times you hear that during, lol I always hold my breath and brace for the pain 😩

Still thinking I had time I sent Erik to go get my hospital bag and the car seat and everything else we didn’t need right away 😂😂 (leave me alone I was a new mom) That SnapBack was real 😜

When he left things took a turn, my contractions were soo bad and I was in so much pain even worse than the night before so they gave me the epidural and broke my water. (for some reason the women in my family have never experience water break the drs always have to break it ) After that I thought I would be able to relax but NOPE!

Immediately after they broke my water they noticed Trinity’s heart rate dropping with each contraction. She could not handle the stress of my contractions (I never understood this because I labored all night with her got to 6 1/2 cm and her heart was fine so I thought but she wasn’t on a monitor to tell either )

They had me turning every which way ass all in the air in the open booty gown trust me all modesty goes out the window when you’re bringing a life into this world

But nothing worked so they ultimately settled on an emergency c-section

This is what I had been afraid of my entire pregnancy. What I DID NOT want. I was heartbroken I cried and cried so much so my mom had to curse me out and get me to sign the papers so they could do the csection because I refused initially not knowing all the facts (Trin was having trouble) Looks as if she was praying ❤️

My mom was there with me but Erik hadn’t made it back yet I just knew he was going to miss the birth of our baby girl I was trying everything in my power to hold her in til he got back. The drs were telling my mom to suit up so she could come back with me because they couldn’t wait for him

She took her sweet time trying to buy us time and he made it literally right before they cut me open he was running down the hallway half dressed lol but he made it ❤️First time daddy held herFirst time I ever held her

And we made the most perfect babygirl ever! I heard her before I ever saw her face and my heart erupted with so much love it poured out of my eyes. I was a mom! Then I saw her and it took my breath away. She was here, she was healthy, she was gorgeous, and she was mine!My introduction into motherhood was a whirl wind of emotions that I had no control over Mommy pornLooking just like daddyDay we took her home

From the pregnancy to the birth and now raising my beautiful princess along side her brother and partner and crime. I just feel like motherhood was always in the plans for me and I’m honored to have been blessed with my two 💖

The Art of Game

Ever since I can remember I have been an avid fan of video games. I guess being born in 1985 makes me particularly qualified to relate on this topic because I happened to basically grow up within the era of gaming. From Atari to Nintendo, from Super Nintendo to Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn- Dreamcast, Nintendo 64 , GameCube, and PlayStation on to Xbox…….I’ve seen and played it all. Not to mention all of the games that can be played on a PC, and all of the smaller portable gaming systems like Nintendo’s gameboy, and Segas’ GameGear.

Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start. That’s a code that any gamer from my day would recognize. It was a staple in early Konami games of the 90’s originating in games like Contra, and Gladius. My brother and I could literally play these games for hours at at time, but that’s if you ever got the game to work. Kids these days don’t know the struggle and frustration of having to blow into cartridges so hard that side of your jaws would start to hurt with the effort…. 😂😂

Definitely not one of the best of times, but also memorable. But arguably the best games and face of the Nintendo brand was and still is Mario, or the Super Mario Bros. Mario is a character that has transcended the video game world completely, having feature films toys and candy and many other type of products. The introduction of the Super Nintendo made the game even more popular with the enhanced graphic capabilities, but on the flip side the Sega Genesis was vying for the top spot as well in the console wars of the time and they had their own character to roll out, if not as popular.

Sonic The HedgeHog was the flagship character for the Sega Genesis system, along with Tails as the sidekick. They starred in a plethora of games, had pinball machines named for them as well as tv shows and mini feature film movies. Sega was very successful during that time, competing with Nintendo in every way, they even rolled it their own portable gaming system called GameGear, to rival Nintendo’s Gameboy.

As I grew older, the video games never seemed to get old, they grew with me and began to get better and better. After a decade of competition against one another, Nintendo and Sega both shrunk in popularity as the new dog in town came onto the scene: The Sony PlayStation. I’ll never forget opening that gift on Christmas morning and seeing that Playstation with my name on it just waiting for me, along with the classic game Crash Bandicoot. That had to be the moment that I truly fell in love with video games and knew they would be a part of my life forever.

That console completely changed the gaming landscape, from graphics and sound , to multiplayer and game selection, everything got better all at once. PlayStation set a standard with that system that still holds in the gaming console wars of today.

In the current battle of the console wars, PlayStation is still on top with the PS4, but has evenly placed competition in the likes of the Microsoft Xbox One ( my personal preference). To rewind a bit, PlayStation after their initial success went on to introduce a PlayStation 2 & 3, currently being on 4. After The rollout of PlayStation 3, Microsoft got a piece of the gaming action and launched the Xbox 360 simultaneously in direct competition with Sony. The Xbox One was Microsoft’s upgrade of the original 360. I’ve had all of these consoles except for the PlayStation 3 & 4, but I’d already made up my mind that Xbox was king.

In my opinion, being an avid gamer and getting enjoyment out of it is an acquired skill. You have your average gamer, casual gamer, and then hardcore gamer, where things can get pretty intense. I’d say I’m somewhere in between casual and hardcore, I’m better than the average gamer but not hardcore so much that I’m the best in any given game. Video games to me are nostalgic, they allow me to relax and wind down after a long days work, or they can at times challenge me and sharpen my thinking at certain times as well. Whether it was watching my older cousins play to master their moves and skill, or playing with and beating my cousins at games to the point where they were throwing the controller 😂😂, video games will always have a sacred place in my heart.

Kudos to you kid

I want to start this blog by thanking the genius behind the concept of Kudo Banz!! I mean a behavioral sticker chart you wear right on your wrist! Genius!!

Ever been in public and your child starts to act up and you have to warn them that their behavior will be reprimanded when you return home. Well with the sticker chart right on their wrists serving as a constant reminder to be on their best behavior, you may find yourself avoiding the public disparity all together…or consequences can happen right there.

Kudo Banz comes with a cute little story book To introduce the bracelets into your routine

or you can use them in what ever way works best for your family

kudos also has a potty training kudos kit https://instagram.com/p/BgrV0uChPl7/

For lack of a better way to reprimand and reward my kids I started to reward treats for good behavior and not necessarily the healthiest(I know bad mommy mistake)

Although it works like a charm I started to notice I give them wayyy too much sugar because of it so I found a way to cut back on it utilizing the wonderful Kudo Banz 🙌🏾

Now when my kids behave they earn a new sticker to sport on their bracket. If they earn all 3 then and only then can they ask for a treat

Stickers can also be rewarded for listening skills and/or little helpers.

This has been working for us

Before Kudo Banz I had to constantly tell them to brush their teeth

Implement our new sticker chart bracelets and guess who’s brushed their teeth 8 consecutive days without having to be told 🙌🏾

I find my kids looking for ways to earn these kudos and I couldn’t be more proud.

Now we all know you can’t keep today’s kid interested in anything unless a tablet or phone is involved… When I tell you kudos thought about everything!! These little stickers each have their own animation when you scan them on the app also provided by kudobanz

The app isn’t short stepping either it has a ready made reward wheel that the kids get to spin after they earn their 3rd kudos and it’s customizable ❤️ (mommy excitement) lol I’ve had the Kudo Banz for a little bit now and we are just now utilizing the app (I’m crazy I know) because when I say game changer…..

I recommend kudos to any parent looking for a way to raise upstanding respectable helpful and behaved human beings Lol ok I may be pushing it you can definitely raise a respectable being without kudos but why would you want to it’s a fun experience for all involved http://www.instagram.com/kudobanz visit their Instagram check out their website and see how kudos has been working for other parents and join the fun

Why Do I Live In Chicago?

Chicago is one the best cities in the world and also one of the largest, so to question why one would want to live in such a city may surprise some. If you ask me why I live in Chicago I’d be more inclined to tell you it’s just because I was born here and the majority of my immediate family is here, than to tell you it’s because Chicago is one of the best cities. When I say best city, the criteria used to determine that is based on the food, the culture, entertainment, sports, nightlife etc….. But, while all of these varying activities are very integral to the desirability of a city, there is one thing that ties them all together—The Weather. As humans we all pretty much like warm weather and sunshine and would generally like to be in that type of environment at all times, but for most of us that is a dream that is definitely not attainable. Especially living in Chicago. Don’t get me wrong now, SummerTime Chi has to be one of the best experiences in the world, but that all goes down the drain after a couple months of Summer and a couple weeks of decent Fall weather. The Winter in Chicago is known as the “Hawk”, and when it comes you better not get caught walking around in a jacket, shorts, skirt, or whatever unprepared position you may find yourself in because you will definitely pay for it. And on top of the harsh coldness, and unforgiving winds comes the threat of snow, and at the moment Chicago is definitely making a case as to why living here is definitely something that someone that does live here must ask themselves. With snow falling relentlessly at the moment at a rate of almost an inch per hour with the possibility of 16 inches, why would one subject themselves to that possibility Year after year knowing that the Hawk is sure to come? It comes to the point where it is almost a dilemma on considering whether or not to continue living in that type of environment or migrate to a warmer climate in a more southern state. There are quite a few options to consider if one does decide to relocate, and actually a trend that started a decade ago is gaining more and more steam as more and more people move from the north back to the south of the country. Being born and raised in and around Chicago definitely leaves its mark though, and for me personally it would be a tough decision to leave my roots, but I’ve definitely considered it, and will continue to in the future. I mean, you can’t get snow like this everywhere right? https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.theroot.com/forbes-10-cities-where-african-americans-are-doing-the-1822124807/amp

The Man With No Birthday🤔

I begin this post by introducing myself as Erik Walls; a dedicated husband to my wife Aiesha, and father to my youngsters Trinity(4), and Rashad(2).I consider myself a hard worker, and everything I do is with the sole purpose of uplifting and elevating my family to be the best we can be. The goal is to live out all of our hopes and dreams, while helping others along the way.💯

…………So about the title of this post, I’m sure it may have raised an eyebrow or two, but that sentiment is just about 100% true if you let me explain. With my D.o.b. (Date of birth), falling on February 5th it is rendered nearly obsolete with my daughters birthday being on February 6th. When my daughter was born I joked that I’d be driving straight from the night club, and directly to Chuck E. Cheese. Almost 5 years later and I’m not even coming from the night club anymore, my birthday is just an afterthought behind all the planning for Trinity’s birthday😂😂😂. I wouldn’t trade it for the world though, and at least there’s a silver lining because often my bday is usually celebrated right along with the Super Bowl. In fact as I write this post watching the NFL playoffs, which is always a reminder that my birthday, and the subsequent super bowl parties are right around the corner. Everyone likes a party no matter what the purpose is, even if it is for a forgotten birthday, I mean Super Bowl or both but one thing that has to be right is the food. So here’s a couple of Gameday recipes that are sure to give your tastebuds a wild ride:

Although my Bears didn’t make it this season I still keep up with playoffs, so from this point I think I’m going with the Panthers or Vikings to play against the Steelers in the Super Bowl.

Bulls need to tank and secure the best draft pick possible, trade Niko Mirotic to improve your chances.

WhiteSox will be the best team in Chicago for years to come after our talent grows. Excited for the future of team without question.

Stay tuned for my next post……Why do I live in Chicago!?😑
